Simple Moments make Great Memories!
Clocks have become my passion project. Thinking beyond time and space each one is a functional piece of art that evokes an emotion or memory of a place and time. Everything is designed around that idea and hopefully points to something in each of us that is creative and fun.
Beginning with wooden or cardboard forms, disparate pieces are assembled to be the host for the layers upon layers of colorful polymer clay. Taking many hours of work, each piece of clay is created from single blocks of color, combined, cut, stamped, manipulated and assembled into patterns. Small pieces are individually formed and gilded or strung across the surfaces of the clay to build up a design.
Nothing starts with a fully formed pattern but rather takes its own path as it is being built. Did I say that it takes HOURS of work? Yes, but to me it is also hours of fulfillment to carry the work thru the process to arrive at a beautiful and fun piece of art.
A Moment in Time became an obsession with using patterns in different places. The front is covered with a pattern created with one small section of a came repeated over and over fitting into an even larger pattern. Leaves and vines grow up each side of the asymmetrical house. The back is a smattering of scraps of the front pattern with the verse bursting thru the center. The intricately braided roof and base edges were created with another type of cane fit seamlessly end to end. So many wonderful details flow over all of the house and extend onto the bottom feet that supports the house. Graced with a bluebird which is ALWAYS present on my clocks. I look at these as birdhouses for the bluebird of happiness!
Created for a contest this clock advanced nicely in the competition being made from canes made by an accomplished clay artist. It was so much fun to create and it is one of my favorites in my collection of clocks.
The clock face is battery run, with a pull tab to start it. The clock can be removed from its home in the house, time adjusted with the pull pin and replaced. Some faces have a small dab of stick-um that helps to secure the face in place and does not harm the clock but should be replaced.
Each clock is securely assembled and cured to be sturdy for light handling….BUT THESE ARE NOT FOR SMALL CHILDREN! Use care when handling because tiny pieces can be broken off and cannot be replaced.
These are one of a kind pieces of art! As such each is signed, dated and copyrighted on the bottom.
Simple Moments is approx 5.5" high and 5.5" across its widest part with sides 3.5".
