Underwear alert! Don't look!
Share

Every body needs to have underwear. Something to support the fancy dressing. For me this can be the hardest part to work on. Unlike what people wear (or what we should wear) our underwear isn't usually seen. But it maters.
My clocks are different though. It matters what is underneath the frills. What color should go where is constantly going thru my head as I work. That beautiful ivory texture just didn't 'fit' until I added a light finger brushing of sparkly brown powder to it. NOW it looks like it fits with the brown roof and takes its rightful place in the background as the perfect underwear.
It also makes a difference to the sequence of applications of the different parts. Polymer clay is a flexible material that can be dented and dinged, torn and tattered with handling but needs to be flat and smooth when placed on the base wood. Consequently I have to work slowly. Plus it will STICK where I place it because of the glues and pastes that I use to secure it firmly once cured. It's not easy to take off and if it is removed at this stage it is usually damaged so it can't be immediately reused.
Starting over at any step isn't fun, but sometimes will help me discover what will work better. What one would think should take a short amount of time to build can take weeks to get thru all of the steps for each piece. But it is a fascinating journey!
If you go back and read the first installments of this blogs beginnings you will see that I am also working on the base that will hold this house. At this point it is still a separate part. BUT it's gonna be FUN!
