My Soul Soars! art clock sculpture of a birdhouse with a hidden nest and eggs below it.

Soaring Thru Life

Ever think about how birds live?

They soar.

Everything is joyful.

I would like to live that way all the time.

Making clocks is a passion of mine. Working with materials….lots of different materials….creates a lot of problems. I tend to collect too much of those "oh! that cardboard ring could be useful SOMEWHERE won't it?" So it's' hard to stop collecting and start using those things. Yet the ideas pour out of my head all the time.

This clock is an example of different materials I collected with no particular goal for them. They just sat there in my drawers waiting. Yet, even when I finally settled on the parts it was a lengthy construction project on how to put them together. The idea took off and if you have been following along you have seen the evolution of this clock over the last few months.

Too much starting and stopping over its journey to completion has been frustrating yet it took all of that time in between the actual work to think about what to put where and the colors and the logistics of putting it together to make this come alive. When the final piece was placed I was just blown away with what it had become.

TIME

Life is about time. We have it and yet we don't. How we use it makes all the difference to  living. Birds have very little time yet they make the most of it. They start in the nests as an egg. As time ticks away they eventually hatch and the mother (and father for some) feeds them until they grow into their purpose. That moment of spreading their wings to fly has got to be the most exciting thing they do in their lives. And then they repeat the process.

For me, the process is creating the art that God puts in my heart and head when I pull out pieces from my collections and consider what to make. This clock took me longer than birds hatching eggs! Yet it is every bit as exciting to me to have 'birthed' it into life. It is probably the most complex and uplifting piece I have made yet.

So like the birds as they take flight, completing this clock was a joyful moment for me as I set it on my turntable (oh yes this clock is definitely a 3D experience) to photograph it. There are many things to say about it, but it is really more about what it says to you. Bringing it to life is my great joy and honor.
