How does a clock start?

Just some random pieces and parts on my table that I think is the start of a new clock! I have no idea why these were gathered into my work tray, but when I pulled them it out they took on a life of their own! 

Then I began to look for colors and patterns to begin the process of covering these base forms.  It's probably the hardest part for me. Although I have been trained in color theory, making it work isn't something that I am confident with every time. So this will go thru an evolution of finding the main color then building from there. 

Next will be the building - and on this one figuring out the logistics of putting these incompatible parts together securely. I've already got ideas for some other additions and accents to make this a really fun clock! EXCITING!
