A mix of parts and patterns and colors sow the planning stages of making a new birdhouse clock.

Chaos on the Bench!

Every time I sit down to work I seem to be shooting off in multiple directions! The result is what looks like chaos on my bench. However me it isn't really chaos, but rather disorganized organization.

When designing anything, especially clocks, there are multiple parts to put together. Each pattern has its own requirements for design and color. Then the multiple parts have to go together not only with color but with pattern and style.

Even thought I have roughed out the main design in my sketchbook it still takes a visual accounting of what does and doesn't work together. For instance I had a stack of colors I started with, but they have gradually been culled and a few new ones pulled from my stash that I think will work better.

This clock has two main parts - the birdhouse and the ring below (see my first couple blog posts). Yesterday I added a base board to it because the ring has to sit on something that won't roll away! 😆

Clay pattern sheet and the foundation base wood to be used to mount the clock on.

Even to me it feels like I can't settle on one area to work on next. Though years of experience has taught me to go with the flow and go slowly to assemble each area. It is easier to change direction BEFORE the clay is cured on the form than after.

So today we have a covered roof and paper patterns to cut the other foundation pieces as well as a working color scheme to move on to the

In the end, it really comes down to where my heart and soul leads to achieve the finished product.

Ready set go!
