Birds of a Feather Fly Together

Tiny wood bird shapes are ready for me to apply alcohol ink colors to them before adding to the clock.
One of the features of this clock is these tiny birds I found in my stash of supplies. They inspired part of the design that that I am working on for this particular clock.
Every clock I make has a nature/bird theme and at least one bluebird (bluebird of happiness) somewhere on the clock. When I found these though I just couldn't resist the urge to cover the whole thing in birds!
Luckily I didn't have enough to do that! But there WILL be a lot of these little chirps vying for placement on the house! I just have to figure out how to do it. Even though I have a design in mind and can mostly visualize it with the  help of my sketchbook  and colored pencils, technically there are things to figure out along the way.
One of them is making everything on, in and around the color secure and able to be handled by the ultimate owner. I want them to be functional as well as beautiful and inspiring to look at. Building these can take many more days than a simple coating of clay would take. Most fine art isn't made to be handled much. Yet it does have to be somewhat portable so it can travel to new homes in its life.
As it comes together I learn from it and make lots of notes to I can use that knowledge on the next one. You see, making good art isn't just doing the same thing over and over again. It's discovering new ideas, design possibilities and creative expression all along the way. Most of all it is enjoying the journey!
