One of the staples of working with polymer clay, and almost any craft, is having a non-stick surface to work on that can be picked up and easily moved around.
Borrowed from the food industry, deli patty sheets fill that need.
The great thing about them for polymer clay work is that a clay sheet can be sandwiched between two sheets and burnished on both sides just by flipping it over. When done the clay will peal right off the sheet. (HINT: peal the sheet FROM the clay instead of the clay from the sheet)
Because they are translucent you can tell when the seam or mark is burnished out by the color change thru the paper. They can be reused several times before they become soiled and stained and need to be thrown out.
These sheets are wax coated on both sides, so unlike some of the others they won't leach your clay as fast if left on the sheet.
They are also great for putting under clay when working with inks, paints and powders as they will protect your table from becoming damaged.
Most of the time though, they come in large boxes with 1,000 or more sheets. Being the frugal person I am, I reuse them several times, so that huge box will last me YEARS!
Thanks to a request from someone looking for them in smaller packages I decided to break up the big box and put some in smaller packages to try or travel with.
At 6" square, they will accommodate most projects. Presented in a sturdy handmade envelope for storage.
