MICRO MESH SANDING PADS are THE best way to get a high shine that lasts and looks natural on polymer clay jewelry and accessories. The zen of sanding always gives you a sense of achievement when the shine is revealed on the surface of the clay as in the samples shown. CREATED from my search for just the right tools to accomplish the task, this five piece set of sanding pads gives you progressively finer grits and surface finish......just like metal jewelers use. In fact this set will work fabulously on metal clay jewelry too - before or after firing! (Just keep a set for both stages of sanding.)
======WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE KIT?======
One double sided pad of each of 5 grits
A laminated reference chart is included in each kit.
Your choice of 3"x4" OR 2"x2" pads
BONUS! A plastic storage box is included! Use it for storage, travel, or creating a sanding station all your own!
A pad holder that holds the pad upright for drying them before packing up to go!
++++++++HOW TO SAND?+++++++++
There are other grits available however I have condensed the number of sanding steps to the five that gives the best and fastest results. For polymer clay set up a sanding station with a tray, water bowl, a towel and a hard block to rest the pad or piece as you sand and experience the sanding zen for yourself! Sanding is best done by placing a wet sanding pad on a solid raised waterproof surface. (I use a rubber block the size of the pad.) Dip the cured clay piece in water and using back and forth movements all over the surface start with the heaviest grit, 1500. Then use the next size 1800grit sanding in a crosswise direction. Repeat in crosswise directions with each higher grit progressing to the 3600 where you will see a soft shine on the surface. To get a high gloss finish, buff on a buffing wheel or like Julie P does, your blue jeans! Marvelous!
**TIP** You will know when to move to the next grit when your piece glides over the sanding pad with less resistance than you started with. Just be sure you sand the ENTIRE surface because you won't notice that you missed a spot until you are completely finished! But you can start over and give more attention to that spot with less time sanding.
**Allow to dry after use. Do not soak in water. These will last a long, long time with a little care.
NOTE!!! these pads from the manufacturer have a distinct oily smell. It will dissipate with use and leaving them out to air dry. It doesn't effect the use of the pads, just your nose for a while.
